NCMA Conference

National Childminding Association Conference, 10th - 12th November at Western-Super-Mare was attended by 550 delegates including representatives from Bedfordshire, Leighton Buzzard was represented by Tunja Stone Chairperson of the Leighton Buzzard Childminding Association.

Friday night was the Civic Reception after which 30 members of the Home Counties Region went out for a meal and to discuss the up coming events.

Saturday combined exhibition viewing with a series of presentations including one from the National Childminding Association President followed by a Ministerial Address from MP Dawn Primarolo.

After lunch there were a choice of workshops including Home Based Learning, Curriculum Guidance and Early Learning Goals.

Later in the afternoon was a question and answer session led by Elspeth Davis, HMI, about Ofsted and its effect on Childminders.

Saturday nights entertainment was a dinner and ball. There were a brilliant array of costumes under the title of handbags and gladrags. Sunday was the Annual General Meeting discussing the groups past year and future plans.

“The conference was a great success, it gave me lots of new information and brought me upto date with current affairs, I have lots of information I will be passing onto the Leighton Buzzard Childminders. I can’t wait until we meet next year, in Derby.”
