Matters Arising

There were no matters arising.

Chair Woman’s Report

Thanks Thanks to the committee and to those childminders who have helped and supported events during the past year. A big thank you to Maureen Webber and her family for persuading local businesses to provide the picnic lunch and balloons for the Christmas Party.

Drop In The drop in venue at the Church Rd Youth Club has been revamped including the Kitchen and now provides a welcoming venue. Term time only on Weds 9.30-11.30am £1/session and 25p for each extra child.

Web Launch The site www.lbcma.org.uk was officially launched by the town mayor on May 9th and was well attended by a variety of childcare professionals including childminders. The site has now had over 1000 visitors. We have a link to amazon books, where we receive a commission on sales. Prices are considerably cheaper then bookshops. The site is becoming self financing from sales of books and web adverts having made £14.51 during the last 6 months.

Childrens Easter Party This took the form of a messy morning with children making hats, cards, masks and collages and several hand print and portrait freezes which have been used to publicise childminding. Two Easter bunnies attended and the 35 children received chocolate Easter eggs.

Tax Man We ordered one man and received three. They came to talk to us about working tax credit, allowances and provided private consultations for tax problems.

Picnic in the Park We attended this annual event with our fundraising stall with Minders Munchies selling savouries and cakes, adopt a teddy and our cake raffle. The raffle produced the bulk of our money as we sold over 400 tickets. It was noticeable that cakes and cuddly toys were rather common activities and it may be useful to think of a more novel and lucrative addition to the raffle.

Publicity Campaign LBCMA have been promoting childminding in the local area. 11 articles about our activities have appeared in various local publications throughout the year showing childminding in a positive light. The NCMA chief executive Gill Haynes was impressed with both our effort to publicise childminding and the website and came personally to visit the group.

Red Cross Training In response to the difficulty of its members in finding a suitable training the LBCMA organised its own certificated course run over six evenings which took place at the Red Cross HQ. The course was fully booked.

Trick or Treat During our Fire Station visit we nearly had to play tricks on the firemen as all the engines were out when the 14 children and their childminders called. Despite the atrocious weather the children enjoyed themselves.

Chocoholics Thanks to Mary for organising and hosting this fundraising event. The quality chocolates ranged in price from 10p. Although not many childminders attended, it meant more free chocolates for those that did.

Xmas Party A successful party for 26 children their childminders and parents was also much enjoyed by the deputy Mayor. The new format took far less time to set up and clear away but still seemed very popular with both children and grownups. The presents and ‘goody’ bags were very well received.

Forthcoming Events We will be running a story telling session from 10 - 11 am on February 16th at the library. Information about this event should also be appearing in next weeks issue of the Leighton Linslade Citizen. If you have ideas for activities and events please bring them to the attention of your committee.
