Fees
We have received several enquires and searches about fees. It is impossible to provide a set cost for childminding as childminders each set their own fees which can depend on a range different things. Generally childminders charge a higher rate for part time (before and after school) then for full day care. Parents receiving Childcare Tax credit can claim up to 70% of their childcare costs back, up to a maximum amount of £135 for one child. This is based on a 40 hour week and sets the fee at an hourly rate of £3.37. Some childminders may charge more then this and some less. The fees can also depend on the area you live in.
Fees for the contracted hours are normally payable in advance on the due date, as specified in your contract. Overtime payments are sometimes paid in arrears, with the advance payment for the next period. Written confirmation of charges can normally be provided on request. All payments are normally recorded in the Attendance Register, but receipts will be given on request.
Childminders normally charge a retainer fee to reserve a place
for future use by a child. The retainer fee is a proportion of the normal fee
(usually 50%) and is normally paid on the same basis (monthly/weekly etc.) as
the service to be provided. The purpose of the retainer is to recompense a
childminder for potential loss of earnings during the retained period. This is
not a credit against future fees. Whilst childminders are being paid a retainer
they will not fill the slot and will therefore provide childminding during the
contracted hours if so requested provided that sufficient notice is given. The
full childminding fee would be payable for any such period. A contract will be
needed to cover any retained period. Without a retainer fee a childminder may
not guarantee a place for your child at any time in the future.
Please note, that where a retained place is not taken up by the parent, the
retainer fees are not refundable.
