Easter

Easter is a movable holiday, this means that every year, it changes its date. Easter can be celebrated as early as March 22 or as late as April 25. The holiday celebrates the resurrection of Christ, following his crucifixion on Good Friday (the eating of hot-cross buns on this day is said to have started in England) and comes at the end of Holy Week, the last week of Lent. Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, celebrating when Jesus entered Jerusalem and the people laid palms at his feet. Holy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper, which was held on the evening before the Crucifixion. Ash Wednesday is the name given to the first day of the season of Lent - the season set aside as a time for personal reflection, when Christians think about the life of Christ and his sacrifices. Lent lasts for 40 days (not counting Sundays), until Easter Sunday. The number 40 was probably chosen to represent the 40 day fast of Jesus in the wilderness.
